Gary D. Cunningham

Gary Dane Cunningham, age 86 of Jamestown, KY passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by family on June 1, 2025, at Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, KY. Gary was born on September 3rd, 1938, in Russell Springs to Elvis Marvin Cunningham and Opal Pearl Wilkerson Cunningham. He is survived by his wife Rachel Holt Cunningham 1 Daughter - Kim Weston and her husband Mark of Jamestown 2 Grandchildren - Eric Weston and his wife Mandy of Columbia Erin Blasko and her husband Mark of Jamestown 2 Great Grandsons - Avery Weston & Layne Weston of Columbia 1 Brother - Roger Cunningham - of Waddy KY He is preceded in death by his parents and brother David Cunningham Gary grew up on Main Street in Russell Springs where his father owned & operated the Studebaker dealership along with a wrecker service. It was in this environment that his father taught him the art of being a mechanic which he used all his life. He could fix anything. After his marriage to Rachel and the birth of his daughter Kim, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for several years. He then went on to have a fulfilling career in the area of construction, first at the University of Kentucky in the Division of Design and Construction and later for the Albert B. Chandler Medical Center where he served as Director of Facilities. He spent time in Frankfort as the Director of the Division of Physical Plant. He ended his career as the Manager of Construction Systems Center - Lexington for the Appalachian Regional Healthcare system. For many years he enjoyed the lake with his family, extended family and Michigan friends, the Boose family. After retirement he enjoyed working on antique tractors and puttering in his shop. He liked salt. He salted everything. He even received a block of salt for Christmas one year. He loved donuts too, but his very favorite thing was Dr. Pepper. He was generous with his talents and abilities and didn’t hesitate to help a friend or neighbor by solving a problem, giving advice or doing the job himself. He loved his family and found great joy in watching all of them strive to reach their goals and was there to lend support when someone needed it. He was a member of Jamestown Christian Church and attended faithfully until his health Friends may visit from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM CT on Thursday June 5, 2025 at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown, KY. Memorial Service is 1:00 PM CT Thursday June 5, 2025 at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown, KY with Bro. Jason Walters officiating.
